The People’s Republic of China, in a joint effort with the CD Foundation, organised a grand event to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. The event ‘Happy Chinese New Year’ supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, is organised annually to convey joy, friendship and propitious wishes of Chinese people to their friends throughout the world.
The program began with chief guests Mr. Suresh Prabhu (Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India) and Luo Zhaohui (Chinese Ambassador to India) lighting a lamp to commemorate the occasion. The event saw the presence of hundreds of people along with members from foreign diplomatic corps, foreign correspondents in India along with officers from Indian Foreign Services.
“Social and economic relations among China and Indian subcontinent date back to ancient times. The Silk Road not just served as a major trade route between India and China, but at the same time is credited for facilitating the spread of Buddhism from India to East Asia,” said Dr. Sandeep Marwah (President of Marwah Studios).
On the occasion, several cultural programs were presented by artists to showcase the best of Chinese music and dance. The craftsmanship and culture from Mongolian region of China was certainly fascinating. An acrobatic troupe of Inner Mongolia Bureau of National Art Troupe pulled in watchers by their astounding aerobatic exhibitions. Every performance by Chinese artists grabbed the eye of the crowd. The Indian artists at the function also complemented them by presenting some Indian cultural programs. ICMEI (International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry) also supported the event.
